WEST PLAINS DELEGATE SELECTION PROCESS

We have officially elected the 5 lay and 5 clergy delegates that will represent our conference at the upcoming Convening General Conference in September in Costa Rica! Soon we will be entering our season of conversation as the delegates will hold listening sessions throughout the conference.

HOTEL INFORMATION

The GMC Transitional Leadership Council is working to setup guest rooms in several San Jose hotels.

More information on which hotels and how to reserve the preferred rate is coming. It is strongly encouraged that people planning to attend the conference wait for more information before reserving hotel rooms.

CONFERENCE INFORMATION

The Transitional Commission on the Convening General Conference is working on putting together an agenda, budget, legislative process, and other materials for conference.

Petitions for consideration must be received by May 23, 2024. GM Church members, whether clergy or lay, can submit petitions, but individual petitions must be signed by at least ten other lay or clergy members.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • General Conference is September 20-26, 2024 in San Jose, Costa Rica at Convention center name.

  • While the number of delegates representing each conference is still be determined, there will be an equal amount of clergy and lay delegates represented at General Conference.

  • Only voting delegates will be on the convention center floor but anyone else able to attend will have seating observation areas or able to attend online.

  • The Transitional Commission on the Convening General Conference is working on ways for people to attend General Conference online. More information to come.

  • Several factors were taken into consideration by the Transitional Commission on the Convening General Conference and Costa Rica was chosen as the place to host our first General Conference. One of the primary factors was that the GMC wanted to be known as a global denomination.

  • The official agenda hasn’t been released but there are a few top items: adopting a constitution for the Church, solidifying the Transitional Book of Doctrines and Discipline, the Transitional Leadership Council, and the Transitional Connectional Officer. Delegates will also have various items to consider including adopting budget for the denomination and electing bishops.

  • It is anticipated that there will be another General Conference in 2026 to deal with matters not addressed in the 2024 and to give more churches time to join. The General Conference is anticipated to be every six years.
